DC Music Friendly

Do you play in the Raleigh-Durham/Chapel Hill area? There is a new CD and Vinyl record store in Carrboro, North Carolina (adjacent to Chapel Hill) that is owned by two transplanted Washingtonians and WAMA members, Gerry Williams and Janet Place. The store specializes in blues, jazz, folk and traditional music. They would like to help DC artists by assisting in local promotion and/or carrying your tapes and CDs and/or in-store appearances. Contact Roots CD & Vinyl at 118-A East Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510, phone 919/969-8827 or e-mail at Roots@mathernet.com.

Performance/Rehearsal Space

Christ Presbyterian Church, off Lee-Jackson Highway in Fairfax, Virginia is willing to make its Fellowship Hall facility available to musical performers for rehearsals, coffeehouse performances or concerts. We are especially receptive to folk, classical, and gospel presenters. Space can be rented or the church is open to mutually beneficial arrangements of facility use in exchange for services. The facility can seat up to 150 persons, has a small stage and a modest sound system. Contact Jeanne Simia at 703/435-0585 or leave a message with the church officer at 703/278-8365.

Go Go Alliance

Maurice Shorter recently announced the formation of a new trade association, the Go Go Alliance. Acting as its chairman, Shorter tells us the Alliance was formed to bring together all go go bands and other interested parties in furthering a harmonious working relationship, establish a code of conduct, promote a positive image and to protect the go go genre of music. The Alliance is comprised of band managers, promoters, venue owners and related businesses. For more information, contact Maurice Shorter at P.O. Box 23132, Washington, DC 20026-3132.
